Citizens for Off-Leash Areas (COLA)

1999 Seattle City Council Candidate Survey

Question 8: If you don’t respond to this survey, can we assume that you believe dog off-leash areas are "for the birds"?

(Judy Nicastro) Not applicable.

(Thomas Whittemore)It would be unfortunate if you made that assumption, given the number of questionnaires to which each candidate must respond in a short period of time.

(Curt Firestone) Dog off-leash areas are not for the birds. Off-leash areas for birds are in abundant supply in all our parks and open spaces. I oppose all on-leash areas for birds.

(Bob Hegamin) No. However, since I've taken the time to answer this survey, the issue is moot with respect to myself. In response to the assumption you would have made had I not responded, I can not understand why you would have wanted to assume the worst of me or any of the other candidates. We may have many reasons for not responding to questionnaires but, I can assure you, the last thing we would want to do is belittle the concerns of the electorate.

(Peter Steinbrueck) (Question Not Applicable)

(Lenora Jones) No.

(Alec Fisken) If I hadn’t, yes. But I have (And I think the birds are doing ok on their own.)

(Margaret Pageler)

(Heidi Wills) We are certainly sharing our off-leash areas with birds, too.

(Dawn Mason) Yes. And please note I responded to this survey under close scrutiny by my two cats who are lobbying me for equal access for my time.

(Cheryl Chow) Sorry this response is so late.

(Charlie Chong) No. Candidates are deluged with long, detailed questionnaires. I assume to opposite from the questions: that my record of support should be known without a questionnaire.
